How We Work

We have a couple of programs up our sleeve to make our work even better for the planet and for you.

Spin & Give

Did you know that only 15% of clothing donated to charities is actually resold within those charities? With Spin & Give, you no longer have to wonder how your donations truly help your community and our planet. This program ensures that items at the end of their (tripled) lifecycle get donated to our vetted organizations -- where we have visibility into their real impact.

ReSpin

With ReSpin, sellers and shoppers alike are encouraged to resell (and re-shop!), creating second, third, and fourth lifecycles for quality kids styles and toys. With each item you purchase with us and then send back to allow for even more lives, we will continue to donate a large portion of the consignment cost to our charity partners every time it re-sells.

Did you know…

Here are some key fashion industry metrics -- that you can help reverse by shopping with The Spin-Off, giving clothing second and third lives, and keeping quality apparel out of overflowing landfills.

DOUBLED

Clothing production has doubled in the past 20 years.

60% MORE

60% more garments were purchased in 2014 than in 2000 -- but only kept for half as long.

ONE TRUCK

One garbage truck worth of clothing is burned or disposed of in a landfill every second.

31%

Microplastics, which come from synthetic textiles like polyester, make up 31% of plastic pollution in our oceans.

10%

The fashion industry is responsible for 10% of the planet’s carbon emissions. (That’s more than international flights and maritime shipping put together.)

SECOND LARGEST

The fashion industry consumes the 2nd largest amount of water worldwide -- and creates 20% of all global industrial water pollution.

700

It takes 700 gallons of water to make a single cotton shirt, and 2000 gallons to make one pair of jeans
